Propane
The Aurora 16BHX has one 20 lb propane tank mounted on the tongue. Propane powers the furnace, water heater, stovetop, and oven.
Turning on propane
Section titled “Turning on propane”- Remove the tank cover (if installed).
- Turn the tank valve counter-clockwise to open — do this slowly. Opening too fast can trigger the excess flow valve and shut off propane.
- Check the gauge — green zone is good, red means low.
Turning off propane
Section titled “Turning off propane”- When leaving the camper unattended for extended periods, close the tank valve.
- Always close the tank before driving — propane lines can be damaged in transit.

Propane safety
Section titled “Propane safety”- Smell gas? Turn off all tanks immediately, open windows and doors, exit the camper, and don’t use any electrical switches.
- The camper has a propane/CO detector near the floor — test it monthly.
- Never store propane tanks inside the camper.
- Have tanks inspected and recertified every 10–12 years (date stamped on collar).
- Inspect propane hoses at the start of each season for cracks or brittleness — replace every 2–3 years.
Refilling tanks
Section titled “Refilling tanks”- 20 lb tanks hold about 4.7 gallons of propane.
- Cost: ~$15–25 to fill at most gas stations, hardware stores, or campgrounds.
- Exchange programs (Blue Rhino, AmeriGas) are convenient but you only get ~15 lbs in a “20 lb” tank.
- Refilling at a propane dealer gives you a full 20 lbs for less money.
How long does propane last?
Section titled “How long does propane last?”Rough estimates for a 20 lb tank:
| Use | Duration |
|---|---|
| Furnace only (cold nights) | 2–4 days |
| Water heater only | 5–7 days |
| Cooking only | 2–3 weeks |
| Mixed use | 4–7 days |
With one 20 lb tank, plan accordingly — refill before a long trip.
