Heating & A/C

The Aurora 16BHX has a propane furnace for heat and a roof-mounted A/C unit for cooling.

The A/C requires shore power (30-amp). It will not run on battery alone.

  1. Make sure shore power is connected and the breaker is on.
  2. Locate the thermostat on the interior wall.
  3. Set the mode to COOL.
  4. Set the temperature to your desired level.
  5. The A/C will cycle on and off to maintain temperature.
  • The A/C takes 5–10 minutes to cool the camper noticeably.
  • Close all windows and vents when running A/C.
  • The roof vent fans can help circulate cool air.
  • If the A/C trips the breaker, you may be on a low-amp site — check with the campground.

The furnace runs on propane for heat and 12V battery for the fan and ignition. It will work without shore power.

  1. Make sure propane tanks are open and have fuel.
  2. Set the thermostat to HEAT mode.
  3. Set the temperature above the current interior temperature.
  4. You’ll hear the fan start, then a click as the igniter fires, then the burner ignite.
  5. Warm air will come from the floor vents within 1–2 minutes.
  • The furnace fan is loud — normal.
  • It cycles on and off to maintain temperature.
  • If it doesn’t ignite after 2–3 tries, check propane levels and that the tanks are open.
  • The furnace draws significant 12V power — monitor battery if dry camping.

The camper has one or more Fantastic Fan or similar roof vent fans. These are great for:

  • Ventilation while cooking
  • Cooling on mild days (no A/C needed)
  • Removing humidity from the bathroom
  1. Open the vent lid (manual crank or powered).
  2. Turn the fan on using the switch or control panel.
  3. Select intake (pulling air in) or exhaust (pushing air out).
  4. Adjust speed as needed.

The thermostat controls both heat and A/C. Common settings:

SettingFunction
HEATActivates furnace
COOLActivates A/C
FAN ONRuns fan continuously (no heat/cool)
AUTOFan runs only when heating or cooling
OFFEverything off
